- During the early post-war years most of the people on our block had renters. Mr. James rented our large upstairs bedroom for three years. (I often wondered why one of our bedrooms had a small Chambers stove in it). My sister recalled that Rev. Mozel Sanders rented a room two doors to the east of our hours for several years.
At first, Sophie thought that they moved to Indianapolis during the war, then she recalled that they didn't use ration books in Indiana, just Tennessee.

Miscellaneous note from a talk with Sophie I mentioned I was starting to look into the Moore side of the family history. (At least one living or private individual is linked to this item - Details withheld.)
Sparta Pike Property recorded sales 1923 and 1936 William J. Moore was listed on Sparta Pike in the 1920 census and Albert Moore was listed on the 1940 census. I am not sure if it was the same location. Oral history is that a house was constructed on Sparta Pike in 1937. The lot was adjacent to woods that family friends would hunt in on weekends. Sophie confirms it was on the same property, but built not the existing house that was occupied by aunt Willie and her husband in the late '30s. The seller was Mary Ellen Moore (Wyatt), A. A. Moore's sister. My sister recalls a dairy farm that was adjacent to the woods where her father's friends from Nashville (Fisk & TN A & I) would come to hunt. She doesn't recall the Baubor Family, possibly they had moved by the mid-'30s, they weren't there in 1940.
Generations of Black Leaders Watching over This Neighborhood A story focused on Cleo's Bodega. Cleo’s Bodega is not the first grocery store Flanner House has run. Albert Allen Moore arrived in Indianapolis with a family and a bachelor’s degree in agriculture in 1934. He found work as the agriculture director at Flanner House, where he taught others from the Great Migration how to farm vacant lots within the city.

Library of Congress Collection of images provided by W. E. B. DuBois of Black Life in 1900. My father Albert Moore was born around 1898, so this is the world that William and Ella brought him into. These images are fascinating. I am especially interested in the infographics; who knew W.E. B. DuBois was a data hack!
| Albert Moore was the Agriculturist at Flanner House during the late 1940's Click the link below to view a timeline of his activities and accomplishments.
Flanner House traces it's beginning back to 1898. Flanner House was named after Frank Flanner (1854-1912), a local philanthropist and mortician. In 1898, he donated a piece of property containing two buildings to the Charity Organization Society, a group operating a social settlement for the city's white population. Albert Moore also traces his beginings back to 1898. In the 1910 Census, Albert appears on line 7 as a 12 year old, and his father William is on line 1 with his occupation listed as "Farmer". According to our oral family history, William Moore was born William Gordon and was enslaved. William changed his last name to Moore to better find his siblings after the Civil War. Our Oral history has be confirmed by census and marriage records. Line 89 of the 1900 Census confirms William Moore's name after he changed it in 1885. The listing of marriage records shows William Gordon making a marriage bond with my grandmother, Ella Bolton in 1885, and marrying her a year later as William Moore. Almost a half century later the arc of these two entities will intersect.
