The Drought of 2012
I remember the drought of 1988, it was the year that I worked in Ann Arbor Michigan. This year it was decided to plant fruit
several trees on the lot on 29th street, and the
Urban Patch Lot on 30th and Park. In mid May it was clear to us that we needed
to water the newly planted trees, and the other plants on the Urban Patch Lot. The lot on 30th and Park is a Permaculture
demonstration project. Yes, by mid May the temps were in the 90's and we had not had ran for almost a month (good for racing,
but bad for new trees). We were not alone, (see the article on the local teen group who waters trees for the City) in having to
provide water for the plants on the two lots (neither has City water). It took us a few weeks to come up with a system for
watering the lots. Then we just waited for the drought to end. As of August 4th, we're still waiting.
