On the passing of Charles William Tabor
Yesterday I received word that Charles had died. On Monday I got a link from Justin for a webinar on the great migration. Viewing it made me think about aunt Lou and Charles. The next day Sophie called to tell me that Charles was in the hospital. The following day I called to check in with Courtney on Charles’ condition. Today as I mourn the loss of my oldest cousin, I regret not spending more time learning his story.
During the pandemic, I have from time to time referenced Charles’ life and spoken at length with Courtney about his connection to Bob Gibson, and his and his mom’s love for the Cardinals. Most recently, I posted his draft card to the family website and thinking about my recently viewed video on the great migration to talk with Charles about 104A South Garrison and Vashon High School. I suspect Aunt Lou’s place was what Nicka Smith-Sewell called “Grand Central Station”. I’ve been told that Aunt Lou was the first of the sisters to leave Kenton, and all of her sisters lived with her in St. Louis. I don’t know where in St. Louis, but 104A might be the place.
I recall my mom saying that Charles was like a son to all of them being Papa Will’s first grandchild. So many memories......
Rest In Peace Charles.
