William Johnson Moore
William Johnson (Gordon) Moore was one of the main reasons I do genealogy. Growing up a picture of him and my grandmother Ella sat on a bookcase in our upstairs hall. That photo was lost in a house fire. The only image of them is in my mind.

Research Question: William Johnson Moore
I know very little about my paternal grandparents.
What are some steps I should take to find the slave holders or other information to learn more about my grand parents and great-grandparents?

My grandfather William Johnson Moore appears in the 1870 US Census as a four year old named Willie having a birthdate of 1866.
In 1886 my grandfather obtained a Marriage Bond to marry my grandmother Ella Boulton.
I presented this discovery to my genealogy group. William and Ella continue to live in Smith county, Tennessee as evidenced by the 1900 US Census The four year old son Albert is my Dad. My Dad appears on the 1910 census, but has moved away by the 1920 census.

Some of the things I've looked at to get an understanding of the life and times of my grandparents:
I've been told that both William and Ella died before my parents were married (1935). I've since learned that Ella lived in Indianapolis in 1930, and died in Detroit in the early 30's. William is believed to have died in Indianapolis.
Thanks in advance, and any tips will be appreciated.
