Notes - Ann Cole - Born in Bethel Springs Tenn. Was tall heavy built and very quiet was laundress and carried baskets on her head. She moved to Kenton, Tenn. and was cared for by her grandson William C. Coe until her death in the early 3-'s. "I never heard about my great-grandfather, he was deceased" from W. C. Cole as told to W. J. Moore.

Based on what is known about Ann Cole, she may have resembled this person.
Ann Cole remembered by Willie Moore in the 1980's. Of note, Ann was remembered as carrying baskets of laundry on her head.
Years ago it struck me that carrying things on your head is associated with Africans, and my third great grandmother carried baskets on her head. This post was prompted by Joyce mentioning seeing YouTube videos about the efficiency of carrying heavy objects.

Ann and Charlie Cole lived in Bethel Springs, TN. They lived near the M&O railroad tracks, much like the Browns. The Coles have been traced to Macon, MS which is also on the M&O tracks.

This was a flyer that was placed on the voters doorknob. Notice the "union bug" that was the mark that it was printeed by union employees. One of the criticism of Jackson was he had never held a public elected office.

We know little if nothing about our early american ancestors. During Black History month Footnote.com made several documents and images available. Some of these images and documents I copied for use on this site, I've associated them with "Anne". All we know about Anne, is her name. Anne's daughter is believed to have been one of the first of our ancestors born in North America.

Senate passes bill that paves way for formation of African American Burial Grounds Network
The bill, which authorizes the Department of the Interior to conduct a comprehensive study of Black burial grounds nationwide, paves the way for Congress to establish the African American Burial Grounds Network — a project that would enable historians, archaeologists and preservationists to coordinate efforts, create a nationwide database, receive grant funding and more.
Few Black burial grounds remain intact in Charleston. Gullah Society wants to save them.

General: Determining her year of birth was quite a problem. He death certificate showed ca 1868 which is absolutely incorrect since her only child Monroe was born ca 1864.
In 1920 Annie is living with her grandson Charles in Gibson County, Tenn. Her age was given as 66 which would make the year 1854, States born in Alabama and she is listed as a widow.
There were several slave holders by the name of Cole in Noxubee County, Miss. A Richard Cole had 11 males and 9 females, two which could be Ann and Winnie. James B Cole had five males and six females, two which could be Ann and Winnie

Winnie's death certificate states father is Dick Cole and mother Lucy.
I do not know if Ann and Winnie are sisters but if not they are close kin since they are living together in Noxubee County, Miss in 1870

Origin of the Cole surname based on 1860 and 1870 documents and the death certificate of Winnie Cole.
Rich Cole in Noxubee, MS was most likely the last enslaver of our Cole ancestors.
