Shortly after I was married, we spent a few days with Aunt Til, around Christmastime; we we all impressed with her tree that recycled snow. Several years later in the middle of a major kitchen renovation, I recalled her stories of her renovation.

I've been to many funerals in my day, but Aunt Til's had the best music!!

Notes:

William Carter Cole, son of Monroe Sr. and Laura Cole, Born near Kenton, TN, October 21, 1879 died in St Louis, Mo December 28, 1975. He was a lifetime member of the St. Paul Baptist Church in Kenton, and a 33 degree Mason in the County Line Lodge #268. He attended a Shriner Convention in Indianapolis in 1953. His favorite scripture was Psalms 37:25.

Not much is known of W.C. Cole's relatives; in the 1990s while on the parking lot of the Kenton Motel, I saw this old guy with a big blue Ford pickup towing a horse trailer. After excersising his horse in the field , he came over, and identified himself as a cousin of Poppa Will. He was a short wireing guy in his 80s, I'm sorry I didn't get his name.

We knew her as Momma Sophie, my sister is named for her..
Much of the Brown Family history has come from James Brown of East Chicago, Indiana. James found us by noticing a letter Wille Moore had sent his dad in the hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the late 1980s.

Monroe Cole (b. 1856) is the oldest Cole we know much about. We know that his mothers' name was Anne. Information on the early generation Coles (as recollected by Willie Moore) is located in William Carter Coles's Scrapbook.

Notes:

Laura Williams Lett mother of William C. Cole was born in Kenton and worked as a cook and housekeeper. William was her only child, he lived on the place with her. Laura was married to Alex Lett and he provided a home for her and her son on what is now Poplar st. in Kenton.

Notes:

Robert Brown was born in Alabama (see 1880 West Point MS census). He was a blacksmith, he was the father of James, Eleanor, Josie, and Sophie. He died and was buried in West Point. James was a railroad worker and moved the family to Kenton, Tenn to work on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad. He was later transferred to Illinois and worked until he was 80 years old.

Robert married Kizzie Atlene Braseil (Brown). Kizzie (daughter of Unknown Braesil and Unknown Unknown) was born in Noxubee County, MS. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Kizzie Brown was born in MS, believed to be in Noxubee county. The 1870 census record matches up with the 1880 census record and oral history, however, the 1870 census indicates race as "W". She was a housewife and mother. She lived in Kenton until her death, she is buried in Kenton in Rosson Cemetery.

Notes:

Ann Cole - Born in Bethel Springs Tenn. Was tall heavy built and very quiet was laundress and carried baskets on her head. She moved to Kenton, Tenn. and was cared for by her grandson William C. Coe until her death in the early 3-'s. "I never heard about my great-grandfather, he was deceased" from W. C. Cole as told to W. J. Moore.

Notes:

Robert Williams was born in Culpeper, VA and was sold to a family in Kenton, Tenn. He was what is now a Veterinarian, he cared for animals and often slept in the barn when a new baby was expected.

Harriet wife of Robert Williams was sold with Robert to a family in Kenton Tenn. Harriet was small in stature but was an excellent cook and housekeeper. Harriet and Robert were the parrents of Laura, Alex, and Robert Jr. Harriet and Robert lived and worked on a farm North of Kenton and both lived to be in their 80's. both are buried in the community where they lived.
