On the passing of Vernon Jordan

Earlier this week I learned of the passing of Vernon Jordan. I recall hearing my brother-in-law Robert speak highly of him. Yesterday, I mentioned this to my sister and she gave the background on why Robert made his comments on Vernon Jordan.

First a little background on my brother-in-law, as a mid sixty Air Force vet he was able to get a supervisory job in a packaging plant. Things were going well until a key person left the company and Robert's situation drastically changed. In Robert's quest to transition to new employment the primary obstacles were his bonus and pension. While in the Air Force Robert served with Vernon Jordan's brother, and had kept in contact with his buddy's mother. At one point Robert consulted from the Jordan's on his problem with his employer.

It has been said that while John Lewis was getting into "good trouble" in the streets, Vernon Jordan was getting into good trouble in our board rooms and corporate America. After Vernon Jordan interceded with Sam Jones of the Indianapolis Urban League progress was made in Robert's case to get an equitable settlement of his bonus and pension benefits.

My thoughts on the passing of Vernon Jordan.
