The goal of the main page is to grab the attenion of visitors and to present all of the site information in menu options on the left hand side
The photo in the upper right corner is of my wife and I, and the large photo in the center of the page is of my immediate family in 2002.
Continuing with the group photo theme, the photos on the right side are of my aunts and my wife's cousins. The photo on the bottom is a random photo of the 3K + photos on the site. The bottom center has a list of surnames for further intice visitors stay on the site.  1

Ths is the of Statistics page of my family history site. Viewing this page gives the visitor a quick overview of the site.
We see that we have 1K + people, 3K + photos, 100+ videos, and the earliest birth year is 1773.

The number of days included is set by the administrator. Return visitors can just check this page periodicly.

Ths is an example of an individuals person page . Viewing this page gives the visitor a focal point for everything on the site for this individual.
Data for the individual may come from a GEDCOM file (more on this later) or entered by users having permission to do so by using the edit tab.

More in the individual person page . The content on this page varies depending of the information collected.
You can think of this page as the Family Group Sheet with lots of hyperlinks.
It gets updated by all of the information placed on the site related to this individual. 5
Manually adding data for an individual person . After clicking the Edit Button (you need to be a login user to do this) Guest may suguest adding data for individuals.
Media files need to be added in the administration section, but all other data for this individual may be added on the person page.

So, how do I get my data for Ancestry or Root Magic into TNG; a GEDCOM file of course. I've only done this once when I uploaded my daughter-in-law's tree. I purposely deleted many of the source links. The answers are in the administration facility . The TNG Forum has many-many posts on how to get your data into TNG.
Increasingly more people are using TNG as their primary software, intead of desktop packages. The debate over Ancestry is ongoing........

TNG keeps track of what you do as administrator, so if you need to reverse an action, you can determine what needs to be done. The answers are in the administration facility . I just noticed that mixed in with spam requests for user privileges I also deleted a cousin-- oops.
I could use a utility to reduce spam, but I personally have trouble keying in those cryptic numbers, so I'll just delete ten or so user requests per day.

TNG has several (11) templates for administrators to customize the look of their site. I use Template #4. The answers are in the administration facility . With a little patience most users are able to make their site look how they want it to look.
TNG is written in PHP, Javascript, and other open source languages, and uses mysql as the database, so it is possible to make as many customizations as you want to make.
